Project meeting in Viena, Austria

~23rd to 28th of November, 2010~

The first meeting of the multilateral Comenius project "Life is a scene, let's create our play" was held from the 23rd to 28th November in Vienna, Austria. The meeting was attended by teachers from Romania, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Austria and Greece.

We were warmly received by Mr. Fritz Obenhofer, project coordinator and director of the Austrian college. The role of this meeting was to know the partners, to present and distribute the tasks for each team involved in the project. We also established the mobilities and the activities for the first year. Each country prepared a power point presentation about the area where the school is located. We also talked about the schools that involved in the project and the educational systems from each country. We established the duration of the project meetings, the number of participants from each country and the activities that would take place during the first year of the project.

For the majority of the teachers it was the first time when they were involved in a Comenius project and this gave them the chance to meet new teachers, to develop their abilities in speaking a foreign language, to deal with European projects.

In addition to the activities related to the project our hosts have established a very interesting and varied programme. We visited St. Stephen cathedral, located in the heart of Vienna, which managed to combine almost unnoticed, austerity, dignity and exuberance of three architectural styles. We also visited Belvedere which is considered the most charming objective of Vienna. Schonnbrun is impressive, a stately edifice which delighted us with its history and its gardens. Each monument was surrounded by many sightseeings, Christmas markets where we could see objects made of leather, wood, glass or even cinnamon. All these things helped us to understand the Austrian history and culture.

All the activities conducted under this mobility had a formative character and developed digital skills to teachers involved. The involvement in various European projects contributes positively to the European dimension of education and to our own educational institutions. We believe that these experiences are role models for those who wish fill out applications for financing from the European Union. We also consider very useful this  educational collaboration between schools throughout European projects.

At the end of these visits students and teachers acquired a different vision for promoting European education, they  broadened their horizons and improved their ability to communicate in a foreign language. You can not be a modern and an effective teacher without a European opening. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.
